Criminally Underrated Albums in Music

In the oversaturated world of pop and rock music, a lot of good records don't get the attention they deserve. Or they get unfairly critically lambasted and nobody buys them.

On the other hand, some records get a disproportionate amount of accolades and everyone in the entire freakin' world buys them. Even if they're not that great.

Pop music history is littered with records both wildly overrated and criminally underrated. Over here you have our list of overrated albums. We didn't always agree, and it very nearly came to fisticuffs a few times (*AHEM* Eminem *Cough*). But we worked it out as best we could.

And here are some of those underrated records. They're not the MOST underrated. There are WAY too many to narrow it down like that. They are simply records we think deserve another look for one reason or another.

Weigh in below about which albums you think are underrated.

The Music, The Music (2002): This debut album from a group of incredibly precocious UK teens should have been huge but only made it to #128 on the U.S. Billboard charts - though it fared better on their home turf. These brilliant kids were technically proficient in old school Zeppelin-esque rock with sweet groove and a dash of Rush-y prog. Unfortunately they were a bit cocky (named their band ''The Music'' for Pete's sake) and singer Robert Harvey allegedly got into the drugs and, well, you know. Too bad. (credit: Album Art)

GNR Chinese Democracy

it's not underated. The whole thing was over-hyped, but the people saw right through that when it actually came out. Nothing great coming out or to get out of it.

They should have stopped when they were on top. It's not even radio time filler.

So, based on your underrated selections and the eras that the recordings come from, I can only assume you're a panel of young people and one old guy.

Grand don't come for free
Streets fan
Totally became a Streets fan after hearing an acoustic cover version of "Dry your eyes mate".

The cover version was really great and I decided to check out The Streets.

This is where it's at! I don't listen to much hip hop or rap as I listen to the original funk, blues and soul tunes where most samples come from.

All of their albums are incredible. check these guys out especially "Standing on the edge of a cliff, Everything is borrowed, The Escapist, Dry your eyes, Heaven For the weather.

Any of those songs will win you over.

You're welcome!

Underrated by Far
Joe
Put pretty much anything by Sam Phillips on this list, but why not go for Don't Do Anything as one of her more recent undiscovered bits of gold. Critically acclaimed as a singer-songwriter, she seems happy to go about doing her thing, but really she should have more than a cult following. She's pretty brilliant.
