Representing Canadian Music at the Olympics

Over the course of the next few weeks, all eyes will be on Canada as we prepare to host the world at the XXI Winter Olympics in Vancouver and Whistler. For a little over a month, it will appear as if the west coast of Canada is the centre of the Universe, as thousands of athletes, dignitaries, fans, and tourists descend upon the glorious city of Vancouver and its surrounding area. But it’s not just about the sports – the Olympics are much bigger then that – it’s a chance for Canada to show off its wares and some of its greatest exports, including some of the best music on the planet.

There are going to be some incredible musical performances as part of the official Olympic ceremonies and the Cultural Olympiad (including performances by major international acts like Usher, All American Rejects, and Steve Earle). But Canadian music will be on full display, and you can be sure that people are gonna be getting down to Canadian sounds all throughout the month of February on the Olympic grounds.

Here is a list of some of the top bands and artists representing Canada, leading up to and during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics:

FEIST – The lovely and talented Leslie Feist will perform as part of the nightly Whistler Victory Ceremonies during the 2010 Winter Olympics. This won’t be the Grammy winner’s first appearance at the Olympics – as a young girl, she was one of 1000 dancers to participate in the opening ceremonies of the Calgary Winter Olympic Games in ‘88, which she cites as inspiration for the video for her hit song “1234”. Feist performs on February 16 at Whistler’s Medal Plaza as part of the medal celebrations program for the 2010 Olympics. (credit: Getty Images)

Im with the local boy, Adams should be in the list. What about some of our other big star. If you are going to spend millions on sports spend a little on the Music.

Many missing

What about Byran Adams, Holly Cole, Micheal Buble, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Jan Arden, STOMPIN TOM CONNERS, Leonard Cohen, Nickelback, Tragically Hip, Mathew Good Band, Terri Clark, Shania Twain, RUSH, Bif Naked, Alanis Morrisette, KD Lang, christ I'd even prefer Anne Murray over Loverboy. I guess they overspent on building the damn thing and left with mediocre musical talent to represent our Canada. I hope the atheletes make up for it.
