Music's Most Controversial Album Covers

Sometimes, it takes more than just a collection of great songs to get people to buy an album. Often, something more is required, something that will capture people's attention right away. One way to get that extra edge is with shocking artwork - controversy gets people talking (and we all know that sex sells), so there is a tradition of controversial album covers throughout the history of popular music. THE ROLLING STONES – STICKY FINGERS: This classic cover, designed by Andy Warhol, caused quite the commotion when the album first came out. Although most people assumed the bulge belonged to Mick, the featured nether region actually belonged to a man named Joe Dallesandro – one of Warhol’s favourite hangers-on. The album also featured a working zipper, which was brought to half-mast, after complaints from retailers that it was causing damage to other merchandise. (credit: Getty Images)
