Amanda Overland, who got her start on skates at the age of four, credits her speed skating family as the major influence on her love of the sport. Her father has been a well-known coach for more than 25 years, while brother Kevin and sister Cindy are both former Olympians actively involved in the speed skating community. At the Turin 2006 Olympic Winter Games, Amanda realized her dream of being an Olympic champion, earning a silver medal with her three teammates in the 3000m relay.
Since 2005, Amanda has been confirmed as a world class athlete. She was a bronze medallist at the World Short Track Team Championships, the World Champion in the relay, and the Canadian Open Champion. Amanda earned her first two individual world cup medals in the 2004-2005 season, demonstrating enough talent to be recognized as Speed Skating Canada’s 2005 Short Track Athlete of the Year.
