Hip-hop crooner and Auto-Tune maestro T-Pain says he's calling his new mixtape The Heath Ledger Project, in tribute to the late Hollywood star.

The singer tells Rap-Up the collection, made up of fresh new jams he's recorded while touring, reflects his new commitment to creating music – a commitment he says was inspired by the Dark Knight and Brokeback Mountain star.

"It's going to be called The Heath Ledger Project because that's how much I love music," T-Pain says. "That's how much passion I have for music. I want to master my craft like [Ledger] tried to do before he died."

T-Pain – real name Faheem Najm – explains that Ledger's dedication to his performance in the Batman flick – and subsequent urban myths about the extent to which it affected him – have inspired him.

"Well, you know how he died. He kind of went crazy because he was so into being the Joker," T-Pain tells the site. "After they finished shooting, he couldn't stop being the Joker. I think he went so crazy trying to master his craft that he died for what he loved doing. He died mastering his craft."

Ledger died on January 22, 2008 in his Manhattan loft. A report by New York's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the star died of "acute intoxication" triggered by an overdose of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam and a number of other drugs prescribed to treat insomnia, pain, depression and cold symptoms, according to the New York Times.
