Legendary music producer Jimmy Iovine says controversial new star Lana Del Rey reminds him of music legend Stevie Nicks.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Iovine was the guest of honor Wednesday night at the Recording Academy's fifth annual producers and engineers party.
At an event stuffed with music industry bigwigs, Iovine was joined by the likes of Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Will.I.Am and hundreds of others, including Paris Hilton and American Idol creator Simon Fuller.
Iovine used the occasion to plug his latest project, the 25-year-old ingenue known as Lana Del Rey, who took to the stage to perform her hit song 'Video Games.'
Del Rey – real name Elizabeth Grant – became the subject of heated debate earlier this year following a less than stellar appearance on Saturday Night Live.
Iovine, however, told the crowd that he thinks Del Rey is "an incredible girl" to whom he has "a real commitment." Speaking of her brand new album Born to Die, Iovine said: "I dare anybody to tell me that's s—'s not amazing. It's left-of-center, it doesn't sound like anything on the radio, it's not trying to be anything to anyone..."
The mogul went on to add that Del Rey reminded him of Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks, who was also in attendance.
"Lana haunts me the way that Stevie's voice haunted me and I just love her album so much," he said. "But I can't compare anybody to Stevie Nicks because Stevie has the greatest tone of any female rock singer that I've ever heard."
