Chris Brown ordered to continue probation
Chris Brown's lawyers lose bid to cut his probation short
February 10, 2012
Chris Brown's fans may have forgiven him for his vicious assault on Rihanna, but the justice system isn't feeling quite so generous.
The R&B star will have to continue to visit his probation officer in his home state of Virginia follow a judge's ruling that he must complete the terms of his sentence.
Brown assaulted Rihanna en route to the Grammys back in 2009, when the pair was dating. Earlier this week his lawyers asked Superior Court Judge George Lomeli to end Brown's supervised probation due to his good behaviour.
The singer's probation officer recently filed a report claiming Brown "has made great strides" and passed all drug tests since beginning probation. Brown has also reportedly completed half of the six months of manual labour he was sentenced to after pleading guilty to the assault.
He was also sentenced to five years probation.
Billboard reports that Lomeli agreed with prosecutors that Brown should continue his probation.
Despite the controversy created by the violent crime, Brown's career rebounded in 2011. His album F.A.M.E. hit No. 1 on the albums chart and is nominated for three Grammy awards, including Best R&B Album.
Brown will return to the Grammys this year for the first time since the incident and will perform as part of the show.
