Sway's Journal

Well, here we are. You are expecting me to write an article about my fascinating experience interviewing one of tween cultures biggest North American stars today. Maybe you’re hoping that I lace my diatribe with some witty little anecdotes and detailed recollections about my behind-the-scenes antics with actress-turned-singer Emily Osment.

Unfortunately for you, outside of Emily mistaking the snarl of my empty stomach in a moment of silence for a mountain goat I have got nothing for you.

As you can probably understand, not only do I not have cable or watch television, but if I did Hanna Montana would not be on my list of ways to spend an hour. I have somewhat exceeded my adolescence–and I do stress the word “somewhat”– but I guess Hanna Montana is the equivalent to my old Saturday morning intake of Saved By The Bell, in which, for me, Zach Morris depicted all that was 80s teenage ultra-cool. The rules of the game on the surface have not changed; kids shows will be kids shows, but the career opportunities for these actors and actresses and in the background have.

The ease at which the acting and music worlds have merged is distastefully overwhelming and I think the term “triple threat”–from the days of James Dean or Bo Jackson–has been forced out of context.  Autotune is now God, and every actor is a singer–and vice versa. However, by and large the success rate tends to lean in the favor of singers-turned-actors rather than in reverse.

I will refrain from the elaborate details here but I do outline my thoughts in one my Vlogs entitled: Top 10 Worst Actors Turned Singers Of All Time. The basis of my theory is that there have been more successful singers who have turned into actors, i.e. Jennifer Lopez, than actors and actresses whom have attempting to pick up the microphone, i.e. Joe Pesci and his famous rap album.

My argument does not conclude the reason why as so much as it equips you enough horrifying examples for you to draw your own conclusion. Due to timing–and also celebrity status–Emily Osment unfortunately failed to make my top 10 list. Needless to say, I have listened to her record and in another lifetime she definitely could have made my honorable mentions.
